The Canberra community are invited to come along and join in this day of celebration organised by the ACT Community Language Schools Association with the support of the ACT Government through the Community Language Schools Program.
Community language schools and playgroups from across Canberra gather to celebrate and share their learning through displays and performances.
There will be games, activities and some schools will be cooking some of their traditional foods for you to purchase.
When: Saturday 7 November 2015

Venue: University of Canberra Refectory
Cost: Entry and activities are free. Multicultural food will be available for purchase.

The ACT Education and Training Directorate is pleased to offer teachers of Community Language Schools the opportunity to participate in a hands-on workshop. This workshop will cover the key elements of a language curriculum that meets the audit requirements of the Community Language Schools Association. Participants are asked to bring any existing curriculum documents or planning for term 4, 2015 and/or 2016.

Come along and enjoy a night out with other community language school members, ACT Government ministers and supporters of our association. Invitations have been sent to all registered schools and playgroups.
Carlos is the founder of OsitoScool, a Spanish speaking community language school. Inspired by the Spanish speaking playgroup Ositos, which means little bears, Carlos had a vision of Spanish speakers having their own school to promote the Spanish language and Latin American culture. The OsitoScool has grown from one class of four children to four classes with about forty children, and eight childcare centre classes with twelve students each. Carlos has also set up the not for profit ‘Spanish Speakers Association’ and, with ACT Scouts, founded the Spanish speaking scout group, ‘Pioneros’. Thanks to Carlos’ leadership and commitment, like-minded parents in Canberra’s Spanish-speaking community are supported in bringing up their children bilingually or multilingually.
The ACT Government’s Community Language Schools Grants Program enhances the ACT community through the continuing support of community language schools, preschools and playgroups in the Canberra region. It is the intention of this grant to ensure that as many community language schools, preschools and playgroups as possible benefit from the funds available.
Who is eligible to apply?
Any registered member school, preschool or playgroup of the ACT Community Language Schools Association. The school, preschool or playgroup is required to be non-profit making and either incorporated, or in the process of becoming incorporated. If not incorporated, the applicant must be auspiced by an incorporated organisation.
All applicant schools, preschools and playgroups must have satisfactorily acquitted all previous grants.
Applications open 18 May 2015.
