Carlos is the founder of OsitoScool, a Spanish speaking community language school. Inspired by the Spanish speaking playgroup Ositos, which means little bears, Carlos had a vision of Spanish speakers having their own school to promote the Spanish language and Latin American culture. The OsitoScool has grown from one class of four children to four classes with about forty children, and eight childcare centre classes with twelve students each. Carlos has also set up the not for profit ‘Spanish Speakers Association’ and, with ACT Scouts, founded the Spanish speaking scout group, ‘Pioneros’. Thanks to Carlos’ leadership and commitment, like-minded parents in Canberra’s Spanish-speaking community are supported in bringing up their children bilingually or multilingually.
